PortableApps and XAMPP

PortableApps is pretty cool:

Using Portable XAMPP, you can bundle a web application on a stick, using Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl.

Only two drawbacks:

1. PortableApps runs only on a Windows machine, if I read correctly.
2. Also, the python language support seems to be only in its initial stages.

In order to do Django on the desktop, I need to find a way to install and run Django (hence, python) in a cross-platform manner.  Any ideas?
